Insight Reports

Insight Reports gives management a view of the whole organisation. Dashboards are built from any module, reports are scheduled by email, and exports use the formats the board and the accountant already use.

The standard report library is included in every edition. The report designer and scheduled delivery require InsightSuite Professional or Enterprise.

The problem it solves

Most reporting problems are not data problems. The data exists but is exported in formats nobody wants, refreshed on schedules nobody controls, and assembled by whoever is best with spreadsheets. Management gets either too little, a month late, or too much — forty tabs with no summary.

How we approach it

Reports start from the questions the organisation asks: who owes us money, what did that job cost, which cost centre is over budget. Standard report packs answer those out of the box; a drag-and-drop designer builds the next question without code. Dashboards refresh on open from live data. Role-based access limits each reader to their own area.

Key features

  • Drag-and-drop report designer for ad-hoc queries.
  • Executive dashboards with KPI widgets refreshed on open.
  • Scheduled report delivery by email — daily, weekly or monthly.
  • Export to PDF, Excel and CSV, respecting the formatting you set.
  • Data sources across every InsightSuite module in one place.
  • Role-based access, so each reader sees only their numbers.
  • A report template library, refreshed with every release.

A working day with Insight Reports

The scheduled Monday pack arrives by email. The dashboard shows receivables ageing, cost centre variance against budget, and jobs whose costs moved beyond tolerance. A variance drills from the figure to the original entries in two clicks. A finance clerk builds a supplier spend summary in the designer without code.

Common questions

Can we reproduce our existing report layout?
Almost always. Bring the current Excel or PDF layout to the demonstration and we will build it live, on your data, as part of the evaluation.
Does it work if we only run one module?
Yes — the standard library covers each module individually, and dashboards grow automatically as modules are added to the licence.
Can report layouts be locked once approved?
Yes. Any report can be published to a read-only library, where it runs live but cannot be edited; editing rights stay with named authors. Board and funder packs are typically published this way after sign-off, so the figure that reaches the board is the figure that was approved, and any later change appears in the audit log with a name against it. Drafts stay private to their author until published.
How does the designer handle large data sets?
Queries run against the database with server-side aggregation, so a report over five years of transactions is summarised before it reaches your workstation. Version 8.2 rewrote this engine. Operation is sized at several hundred thousand transactions per query on ordinary office hardware.
